Games for Math Review-Quizlet Live

Using Games for math review is a great way to get kids engaged in learning!  My class enjoys playing games and will not mind practicing their math skills while playing them.

Quizlet Live is a great game for math review. Students compete against each other as individuals or teams by answering questions correctly. Quizlet Live is wonderful for reviewing math vocabulary or simple math problems.

Before You Start Playing

In order to play Quizlet Live you will need to have a Quizlet account. If you do not have an account go to Quizlet.com to sign up. Quizlet offers a free and paid version. The paid version is $47.88 a year.

You are able to make sets of flashcards and play Quizlet Live with the free version. If you would like to find out more about how to use Quizlet to help students study you can check out the following blog post by clicking the image below.

Games for Math Review- How to Play Quizlet Live

Step One

Before playing Quizlet Live you will need to create a set of flashcards from Quizlet. You can create your own by putting math terms with definitions or you can put a math problem and the answer. If you do not have time to create your own set of cards you can search for topics on Quizlet in the search bar. When you find a set you would like to use you can edit it to make it fit your needs. You are also able to combine sets of cards if you find sets that you would like to make into one set.

Step Two

Once you have created your cards you will click the live button. You must open the set of cards first and then you will see the live option on the left.

Step Three

You need to decide how you want your teams arranged. You have two options:

  • Random teams
  • Individuals

If you choose to play in teams, the students will have a set of answers that they will use for the game. When the game starts everyone on the team gets the same question, but only one team member has the answer. They have to be careful to make sure they don’t answer the question if they do not have the answer.

Each time an answer is used it is marked out and they will not use it again. For example, each person on the team has 4 answers that show on their device. When they use one of their answers it will mark it out and they only have 3 left to choose from.

Once a student has used all of their answers they are finished. Their team members must continue to answer their questions until they have used all of their answers. The group that gets every question correct first, wins.

When playing as individuals each student will answer questions. The first one to get all questions correct is the winner.

Step Four

You now need to select how you want your questions  and answers to be presented to the students. The 2 possibilities are:

  • Definition given with terms as answers.
  • Term given with definitions as answers.

Step Five

Next students will join the game. They can use the Quizlet app or go to www.quizlet.live to join. They must scan the QR code or enter the numerical code. Once they are in the game they will need to enter their name. They can study for the game using the flashcards while they wait for everyone to join.

Step Six

Select CREATE GAME when everyone has joined. Press START and the game will begin. When the game starts students will be able to see their score on the board.

While playing in teams, each team will have a team name that is displayed on the board (see picture above). If students are playing as individuals they will be given a name of an animal instead of their actual name. When a question is missed, the score will go back to zero and each team or student will have to start again.

Step Seven

The first group to finish all of their questions wins (the amount of points needed to win varies from game to game). After the students finish they are able to review the questions that were missed.

Conclusion
