Just recently l have discovered a new type of digital activity that I like to use with my students in math class. It is a drag-and-drop activity. Drag-and-drop activities in math have been a lifesaver for me!
A drag-and-drop activity has questions for students to answer by dragging the correct answer on a card that is provided.
You can create your own or purchase them on Teachers Pay Teachers. There are several ways you can use them in your classroom. Below are a few ways I use drag-and-drop activities.
Drag and Drop Activities for Math Homework
Drag and Drop activities are perfect for homework. Many times in math students will not do their homework because they are having a hard time understanding the concept. With a drag-and-drop activity students have cards that have the answers on them. They need to figure out which question each card goes to. By having the answers provided students will be able to determine if they are on the right track. If they solve a problem and their answer is not on one of the cards they know they have done something wrong and will try to fix it.
Drag and Drop Activities for Warm Ups
You can have students complete a short drag and drop at the beginning of class as a warm-up. Use them to review important concepts from the day before or to review important math topics you have already covered. Students can complete this on their own computer or device. You can go over the answers when the students have finished.
Another way to do a drag and drop as a warm-up is to share the drag and drop on your board and have the students answer the questions on their paper. To check them you can have students come up to the board and drag the correct answer to the appropriate question.
Drag and Drop Activities for Math Classwork
Drag and Drop activities are a great way for students to get practice in math class. They can be used during class to review a new concept that has been taught during the lesson. Students can work by themselves, in pairs or in groups to complete them. Students can work together in groups and compete against other to see who can get all of the answers correct.
Drag and Drop Activities for Math Assessments
Drag and Drop activities are an easy way to assess students’ knowledge of a concept. They are easy to grade and students get quick feedback on how they are doing on a certain topic. You can have different questions to differentiate for students and they will not know they have different assignments.
Conclusion
Drag and Drop activities are a great way to get students to practice in math. They are able to use the answer choices that are provided on the cards to help them determine if they are solving the problems correctly.
