Fall Activities for Middle School Math

I love fall! It is a fun time to do fall activities in middle school math. The weather turns cooler. The leaves start turning beautiful colors. It is one of my favorite times of the year. There are several fall activities I like to do.

Fall Coloring Sheets

One of my favorite fall math activities to use in class is a math coloring sheet. Students get to practice their math skills and check their work using the coloring sheet. I tell my students to do a problem and color the matching section as they go. I do not like for them to wait and complete all the coloring until the end. That way as I am walking around, I can look at the coloring sheet and see if a student has made a mistake and give them help. It is quick and easy formative assessment.

Cut and Paste Activities

Another type of activity I Iike to have students do is a cut and paste activity. The students are given a worksheet that has all the problems and a set of cut out answers. They complete each problem and find the answer to match it. They cover the problem with the answer. As I walk around, I can quickly see if the answers are in the right place and give help if needed. Many times, I have the students do this activity in pairs. I like for them to be able to discuss and reason through their answers.

Fall Drag and Drop Activities for Middle School Math

If you are looking for a digital fall activity, I like digital drag and drops. In a drag and drop activity students complete a problem and then look through the moveable pieces to find the answer. They then move the piece to the correct place to complete the fall picture.  Drag and drops are great for helping students check their understanding. If they do not see their answer, they know they did not do the problem correctly. It helps them to know that they may need to ask for extra help.
