Using Digital Escape Rooms in Your Math Classroom

Take your traditional math classroom into the digital era by using digital escape rooms. If you’re searching for innovative ways to elevate your math teaching experience, look no further. In this blog, we’ll give you ideas for incorporating digital escape rooms into your math classroom. From classroom activities that foster collaborative learning to reviews that make test preparation a digital adventure, and even assessments that put a twist on traditional evaluation methods – the possibilities are as boundless as mathematical concepts themselves.

Use as a Classroom Activity

Digital escape rooms are engaging activities that you can use in your math classroom.  Use digital escape activities for classroom practice. You can use digital escape room activities as group exercises where students can collaborate to unravel the mathematical challenges in each room. The collaborative nature of group activities promotes peer learning and allows students to draw upon each other’s strengths, creating a supportive learning environment. You can also have students work in pairs. Pairing students for digital escape rooms cultivates a sense of shared responsibility and encourages dialogue as they jointly navigate through mathematical puzzles.  Digital escape rooms can also be used individually to give students the opportunity to test their own knowledge. Using digital escape rooms injects an element of excitement into the learning process and gives educators a different way to assess students, making mathematics more accessible and enjoyable.

Use Digital Escape Rooms for Review

Use digital escape rooms for review. Digital escape rooms offer an engaging and interactive way to review mathematical concepts in the classroom, making test review both enjoyable and effective. These activities provide a platform for students to revisit key topics before an upcoming test, transforming the review process into an exciting challenge. Each room within the escape room can be tailored to focus on a specific math concept, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the material to be tested. Whether revisiting algebraic equations, geometry theorems, or statistical methods, students can navigate through the digital escape rooms, solving problems and unlocking clues that reinforce their understanding. Moreover, digital escape rooms are particularly valuable for End of Year math tests, offering a comprehensive recap of the entire academic year’s curriculum in a fun and stimulating format.

Use for Assessments

Another way to use digital escape rooms in the math classroom is to use them as assessments. Escape rooms are perfectly suited to use for a quiz or a test. You can use each room in the escape room to assess different concepts. Students will know they have a problem wrong if they cannot escape the room and this requires them to go back and check over their work.

Students should use a recording sheet to show their work. This will be helpful if a student gets stuck in a room and cannot escape. The teacher can check the recording sheet and then help the student escape the room so they can finish the assessment.

In conclusion, the use of digital escape rooms in the math classroom can be a highly effective and versatile tool. These engaging activities not only enhance classroom practice but also serve as dynamic platforms for reviewing math concepts and conducting assessments. The incorporation of such dynamic tools not only enriches the learning journey but also cultivates a positive and interactive learning environment in the math classroom.
